Determining What is Most Important to You in A Sitter
These days it isn’t the best idea to hire any random sitter you hear of, regardless of which of your besties refers you to them. Why? Because not every sitter is going to be the best match for your family…and that’s okay!
Every family has their own specific needs. Some families may need help driving their kids to after school activities, while other families may need help with household tasks; laundry, dishes, making beds, etc. So you should sit down and figure out what you would need your sitter to help you with. Make a list and share it with the sitter so you are both on the same page.
Another thing to think about is if you are planning to ask your sitter to do tasks outside of traditional duties related to childcare, you need to take into consideration the amount you’re paying them. The more tasks you are asking the sitter to do, like having them drive your kids to and from places, the higher their hourly rate should be. Don’t take advantage of a helpful sitter, their job environment and pay is important so that they are enjoying the job and doing the best they can for your family.
Before hiring the first sitter that walks through your door take some time to determine what is most important to you in a sitter. Some sitters have more experience with younger ages like newborn babies to 3 years old while other sitters may have little experience with the younger ones and a lot of experience with ages 6-10.
If you’re a mama of 3 elementary age energetic boys... you will more than likely want a sitter who can match their energy and who enjoys running around outside with them vs. the quiet sitter who prefers to do arts and crafts. Now don’t mistake what I’m saying here, because there is nothing wrong with either of the sitters I’ve described. However, if you don’t take the time to evaluate your family’s dynamic and personality you will soon realize you may not have made the best choice for your family.
I hope that thinking about these important family factors will help you find the perfect match in a sitter. So make a list and meet your candidates. You need a night out, and we want you to feel secure with your sitter.
